Special Olympics of Michigan

The Chi Chapter of Sigma Tau Gamma annually involves themselves with the Special Olympics of Michigan to try to raise money and participate in events to improve the lives of others. In 2020, the Chi Chapter raised over $12,000 for the Special Olympics of Michigan, which made them the highest donor at the event.

Special Olympics gives people with intellectual disabilities (ID) the confidence they need to succeed, on and off the playing field. Special Olympics offers 30-plus Olympic-style individual and team sports that provide meaningful training and competition opportunities for persons with intellectual disabilities. Students of all abilities have the power to positively impact their school communities by promoting social inclusion.

Sigma Tau Gamma annually hosts our philanthropy week, Snowdays, to raise money for the Special Olympics of Michigan. The week is filled with fun competitions for our greek community to participate in and help us support a great organization. At the end of the cold February week, every member of our chapter, alongside individuals in our community, take a Polar Plunge hosted at Bell's Brewery in downtown Kalamazoo. In 2021, the chi chapter hosted their own Polar Plunge as the annually event was postponed due to COVID-19 restrictions. In 2021, the Chi chapter raised over $20,000 for the Special Olympics of Michigan.
